Vocabulary (M-Z)

Building your vocabulary is obviously an essential part of achieving fluency.  You need to learn at least 3,000 words to become fluent in English.  You can accomplish that in about three years by learning three words each day.   To listen to a word click on the

Some words are spelled the same but pronounced differently according to how they are used.  Words marked with (A) are adjectives, words marked with (N) are nouns, and words marked with (V) are verbs.  Words marked with (X) are exclamations.  For other words there are two acceptable pronunciations.  Those words are marked with (1) and (2).
